Join us for an evening of community and friendship as the Mount St. Joseph University Concert Band takes the stage for their final Spring Concert! This performance is about the bonds of friendship and the enduring spirit of community, showcased through collaborative efforts featuring the premiere of a new work by MSJ Music Major Austin Gray, the exceptional talent of soloist Dr. Wade Goodwin, and Highlands HS Winter Percussion.
This concert is made possible by the partnership with the impactful work of the non-profit organization, Sing Me a Story.
“Sing Me a Story gives children in need the opportunity to write and illustrate stories about anything they want. We then give those stories to songwriters and musicians who turn them into songs and send them back to the kids. Our mission is to serve children and families in need through the imaginative stories of their children and the power of music. These songs and stories remind us all of how much we have in common, raise awareness and financial aid for nonprofits around the world, and, most of all, provide families with an unforgettable experience that brings joy and healing.” Sing Me a Story
Sing Me a Story connected with The Cure Starts Now, a foundation based in Cincinnati, OH. “The Cure Starts Now represents something truly different. For us it’s not about fighting just one cancer, but the elimination of cancer as a whole. We believe as the experts do; that in order to truly cure cancer you have to focus on those cancers that are the biggest bullies like DIPG. The Cure Starts Now is the first cancer charity dedicated to this ‘homerun cure.’” Sing Me a Story – The Cure Starts Now
Sing Me a Story in connection with The Cure Starts Now, identified 7-year-old Ashton, who has an aggressive form of Brain Cancer and is working hard to overcome this huge challenge at such a young age, as one of their warriors. Ashton wrote a book inspired by this struggle called “The Unicorn Adventure”. Music Major Austin Gray is creating a multi-movement piece based on this work and it will involve narration provided by our MSJ Theatre Department students.
