For a second year, Gold Star donates 20 cases of chili to support the Mount Community's on-campus food pantry, Lion's Cupboard.
Cincinnati – (Dec. 18, 2023) – Gold Star is all about serving the community – and its ongoing partnership with Mount St. Joseph University will ensure those in need will continue to receive the support they need this holiday season and beyond.
Gold Star President and CEO, Roger David, presented President of Mount St. Joseph University, H. James Williams, Ph.D. and Vice President for Institutional Advancement of Mount St. Joseph University, Sydney M. Prochazka, with a donation of 20 cases of the company’s signature chili to the Lion’s Cupboard, the Mount's on-campus food pantry.
Expected to last the pantry six months, the chili will be donated to students and others to assist in the ongoing fight against food insecurity.
Data from the 2020 National Postsecondary Student Aid Study has provided the first nationally representative picture: more than one in five undergraduates experience food insecurity. Recognizing food insecurity concerns on campus, former MSJ student and former AmeriCorps member, Hanne Driscoll created The Lion’s Cupboard, which opened in March 2021. The Lion’s Cupboard’s mission is to provide non-perishable food items and hygiene products to all full-time and part-time MSJ students, as well as residents and commuters.
“Gold Star’s job is to serve the community, which doesn’t mean only selling them delicious, family-friendly meals for our fortunate friends, but also those who may need help from time-to-time,” said Roger David, president, and CEO of Gold Star. “This especially rings true for students experience food insecurities who are also attempting to maintain good grades, participate in extra circular activities and participating in social activities. Which is why we are once again partnering with Mount St. Joseph [University]. Continuing our commitment to the community and ensuring our region’s youth can become the great leaders they are destined to be.”
“Mount St. Joseph University thanks Gold Star for their support of the Lion’s Cupboard for a second straight year. The young people that call our campus home should be able to focus on their studies, not about where their next meal may be coming from,” said Dr. Williams. “Partnerships like this are what makes our region so special, and we hope others will join us in providing for the community at large.”
