When life gets hectic, such as in the weeks leading up to finals, we need to remember to take a step back and breathe.
Louis Tallarigo, a senior majoring in Liberal Arts with a minor in history, knows this very well. Louis graduated from Moeller High School and went to the University of Dayton. He didn’t like being at such a big school and being far away from his family, so he left UD the week before the COVID shutdown. He described the shutdown as being a time of reflection when he could reevaluate his values and priorities. Louis took this time to hit “reset.”
It wasn’t until July 2020 that he wanted to give college another try. When he looked into The Mount, he found that it had a large variety of resources that would be helpful to him if he were a student. He described MSJ as being “too good to be true.” He applied and was accepted.
This time around, Louis was prepared for the workload and being away from his family. He brought the skills he learned in high school into college life and got into a good rhythm of work, school, and social life. He found that going to a college about the size of his high school made everything seem much more manageable. As a senior, he claims to be doing very well at MSJ and really likes it here!
Since being at MSJ, Louis has been a part of so much, including acting in theater productions and singing and competing with MSJ’s a capella ensemble, Voices of Gold. He stated that he doesn’t regret taking any of the opportunities he has been given and wouldn’t change anything about where these opportunities have taken him.
Louis’s advice to prospective students is “Don’t be afraid to put yourself out there, as rough as the process can be. You won’t regret it when you look back at what you’ve done.”
