Biography:
Harrison Collier is the Assistant Dean of Educator Preparation and an Assistant Professor in the School of Education. His duties include overseeing state and national accreditation, working with student teachers to complete their programs and secure initial licensure, and approving endorsement applications for existing teachers who want to pursue advanced preparation in their field.
Harrison received his Master of Education degree in Curriculum & Supervision from Miami University and he holds Bachelor’s degrees in French, History, and Education from that institution as well.
After graduating from Walnut Hills High School and Miami University, Harrison served thirty years in the Cincinnati Public Schools before retiring and coming to the Mount in 2013. As a credentialed lead teacher in the district, he served in a variety of teaching posts, from elementary to middle to high school teacher, and was also a district academic coach in math and science. He taught in many different programs, including French bilingual, Paideia, neighborhood, and college preparatory. He also taught for three years as adjunct faculty at Xavier University within the Special Education Department, teaching undergraduate and graduate students. He served as Standards in Practice Coach and District Coordinator of SIP in the Cincinnati Public Schools and was a National SIP Trainer for the Education Trust in Washington, D.C. He achieved Certification from the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards in Early Adolescence / Science in 2002 and was awarded the Lawrence C. Hawkins Educator of the Year Award from the Western & Southern Financial Group in 2013.
