Pre-professional studies at Mount St. Joseph University are courses of study prepared by expert faculty members that supplement your existing major and better prepare you for a career as a health professional.

Pre-professional studies offer dedicated guidance from faculty members in the Department of Biomedical & Natural Sciences and School of Health Sciences to help tailor your course work so that you are better prepared to pursue an advanced degree.

Career outlook

The Bureau of Labor Statistics projects that from 2008 to 2018, 26 percent of all new jobs created in the U.S. economy will be in the health care and social assistance industry. This industry is expected to grow by 24 percent, creating four million new jobs.

Pharmacist

Pharmacists dispense prescription drugs and help patients to understand the instructions that are provided by doctors and other health practitioners. They monitor their patients' health and progress to make sure their medications are working effectively and safely.  While the majority of pharmacists work in community pharmacies, there is an unprecedented demand for pharmacists in a wide variety of occupational settings.

Pre-Pharmacist

The Mount’s pre-pharmacist area of study prepares you well for a doctor of pharmacy, or PharmD program, typically offered in a two plus four format. The Mount recommends students interested in pre-physician assistant studies choose a major in biology, biochemistry or chemistry.
